There’s something timeless about a watercolour portrait — the gentle washes of colour, the depth of detail, the way every brushstroke tells a story. I create bespoke watercolour portraits of people, working from your favourite photographs to capture personality, emotion, and likeness in a way that feels warm and alive. Based in Scotland, I work with clients across the UK and internationally to create art that’s personal, meaningful, and made to be treasured.

Why Choose Watercolour
Watercolour is perfect for portraits because of its softness and subtlety. The transparency of the paint allows me to build up beautiful subtle skin tones as well as adding fine details. It’s my favourite medium to work in and is ideal for:
-
People portraits – From individual likenesses to family group scenes.
-
Pet portraits – Gentle, lifelike depictions of beloved animals.
-
Special occasions – Weddings, anniversaries, and milestone celebrations.
-
Memorial portraits – Sensitive tributes to loved ones who are no longer with us.
My Process
Every commission is a collaboration. Here’s how it works:
-
Choosing your photo – I help you select the perfect reference image.
-
Planning your portrait – We discuss composition, size, and any personal touches you’d like included.
-
Bringing it to life – I work in high-quality watercolour on archival paper for lasting beauty.
-
Finishing & delivery – Your portrait is carefully packaged and sent anywhere in the UK or worldwide.
Most portraits are painted in a traditional head and shoulders pose. However, you may wish to have a zoomed in, cropped portrait of the face which will look more dramatic and contemporary.
If you are unsure of what style you prefer or need to get some ideas, browse through the gallery to see what you like best. I can offer advice on which would be most suitable for you when I see the photograph you wish me to work from.
Sizes and Pricing
I offer a range of standard sizes, but can also work to custom dimensions. Prices start from £225 for small single-subject portraits, with multi-subject or larger sizes available on request.

Testimonials
WOW, the painting is simply stunning. Thank you so much. And thank you also for getting it done so quickly. Rohan’s shirt looks just incredible, I love the way you’ve captured the colour and natural drape of the material. You’ve really captured the absolute likeness of Niki and Rohan, and also their closeness and happiness from the original photo, which is what I wanted.

I asked Rachel to draw a portrait of my son, Harry. I sent her a few photos and she then spent so much time talking through how I wanted the portrait to look. She discussed in detail the materials she was thinking of using and emailing examples of her past work. She suggested using black biro to draw Harry and the result was absolutely amazing. The detail of his face and especially his curly hair was so life like.
I can highly recommend Rachel, you won't be disappointed. Harry has been framed and hanging in my front room. I love it and have so many comments. Thank you so much.
